But in order to achieve that, you need to ensure you are applying your skin care products properly. Otherwise, you might end up applying too much product, and that can cause oiliness, and clogged, congested pores. A conventional jar of face cream is around 95-98% water."

Don't waste your money on water-based products! As a natural skin care formulator, I can tell you right now that adding water isn't necessary and it's a cheeky way of "padding-out" a formula to make it cheaper. Adding water to products also creates the need for alcohol, glycerin and controversial preservatives (parabens, etc.). A conventional jar of face cream is around 95-98% water. Disappointing, right?

Just apply it before bed instead - kind of like a hydration mask. Your skin loses moisture while you sleep, and product rubs off onto your pillow. So, always make sure you use good night cream, and make sure to pay extra attention to your neck and the delicate area around your eyes. Over 35? Read > How To Get Dewy Skin

How to apply face serums

Here's the Secret: ALWAYS apply your oils and face serums to damp skin. Never put a waterless product straight onto dry skin. It will soak up 5 times too much product, and within an hour you'll be oily-galore. Apply face serums sparingly; remember, these are concentrated and are not meant to be applied the same way as a water-based product. A few drops is all you need, and start with the driest parts of your face first. (Read > How To Get The Most Out Of Your Facial Oil)

How To apply face moisturiser

If you're using a concentrated facial moisturiser to freshly cleaned skin, follow the same rules; always apply onto damp skin. Use a very small amount, and by that I mean a pea-size. Again, start with the driest parts of your face and neck first.

How to Layer a face serum with your moisturiser

If you are layering a moisturiser over a face serum, it is very important to give your skin a few minutes to fully absorb the face serum first. If you don't, you won't really know how much moisturiser you need and you'll risk over applying it. When you apply the moisturiser over a serum, you don't need to dampen your skin again.
