How To Make Sauerkraut: Raw Fermented Veggies For Clear Skin (Video)

Want to learn how to make Sauerkraut (aka your own RAW FERMENTED VEGGIES)? Welcome to Pantry Beauty 101!

Today I'm showing you how to make this probiotic superfood at home.

Fermented veggies are extremely nutritious, help with digestion, and are loaded with beneficial probiotics which support your gut health (and your immune system).

These raw probiotics are also your secret weapon for clear, glowing skin.

If you are prone to breakouts, Eczema, Rosacea or general skin inflammation, you will definitely want to start incorporating raw fermented veggies (Sauerkraut) into your diet on a regular basis.

Why Eat Raw Sauerkraut?

If your gut bacteria is unbalanced from antibiotics use or eating sugary/processed foods, adding raw probiotics (which are actively assimilated in your gut) will help prevent flare-ups and keep your skin nice and clear by recolonising your gut microbiome.

Ingredients & Materials

  • Cabbages, cauliflowers, carrots (mix and match to your taste)
  • Sea Salt
  • Mason jar with tight-fitting lid or vessel like the one I use in the video
  • Weight (or clean, smooth stone)
  • Sharp knife, cutting board, something to press down the veg
  • Large mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Clean your mason jar with hot soapy water and make sure it's dry.
  2. Wash your veggies well, peel carrots, etc.
  3. Chop your veg finely and add them to your bowl. Reserve the external cabbage leaves and set aside.
  4. Add a generous amount of sea salt to the veggies and mix by hand.
  5. Taste the veggies and make sure they are quite salty.
  6. Let the veggies rest, covered, for about 45 mins. A brine will start to form.
  7. Press the veggies down into your jar, making sure to pack them as tightly as possible.
  8. Pour in any remaining brine that has formed in the bowl.
  9. Top with the exterior cabbage leaves to create a "cap." Make sure to press down firmly.
  10. Finish by adding a weight to the top, or more cabbage leaves if you are using a smaller jar.
  11. Put aside and check it weekly until it's done.
